Step one: Purchase some burlap. I purchased some red burlap from Joann's Fabric store a while ago and when Mom said WOW this is beautiful you should make more of these, when I went back to get some more they didn't have the plain solid red. They do have some at Hobby Lobby . I simply cut out a square shape 40"x 40". Then pin about 1/2 an inch underneath on each side so the ends won't keep fraying and then sew with a sewing machine or hand stitch or you could even use a hot glue gun if you don't like to sew.
Step 2: After the fabric is a nice even square and hemmed you take a piece of tracing paper and trace a heart. I used a foam heart that I found in Michael's craft store traced that and then cut out the INSIDE of the heart out. then take the tracing paper and pin it on to the burlap fabric. Here come the fun part!
Step 3. Take assorted fabric paints I chose various reds and pinks from the paint section in Michael's. Use a paper plate and put your assorted colors on the plate. Dab the tip of an eraser into one of the colors. I started with the darker colors on the bottom and then filled up my heart with the lighter colors on top.
I did this in each corner and let the paint dry over night.
Step 4. I found some clearance white trim at Michael's and hot glued the trim around the edges for a little extra pop. Actually, my sewing of the white line was not so perfect because I didn't have any red thread for my sewing machine! So, I had to cover up my sewing stitches. I am actually glad because it turned out really nice with the trim around the edges.
Hope you like it! You can also do this on tote bags and give as a gift stuff with flowers and a stuffed animal! Happy Valentine's Day Loves!

This sounds like a really cute idea. I love the look of burlap it's so country. We covered our bridal table at our wedding reception with burlap and it looked great.
