We tried the Bacon On Wheels Food Truck soon as my boys saw "bacon" it was the first stop they wanted to make. Their signature dish that they were entering into the food competition at the Monmouth Park was the curried corn with crispy bacon. The boys tried the Bacon on a stick which is a slab of bacon slow roasted then sliced thick served with Citrus chipotle BBQ sauce. They loved it! Waffle De Lys is a husband and wife owned Gourmet food waffle cart out of Hoboken, NJ that serves up the most heavenly waffles I have ever tasted and I am sure you will agree. Waffle De Lys has won 2013 Most Seductive Sweet, 2013 Top Truck, and Best BBQ Specialty.
I asked the owner, Lucie Dunan to make me her signature waffle. While her husband Olivier prepared the freshly made waffles, Lucie showed me the ingredients to make an awesome French Waffle which included: Nutella (They had the biggest Nutella jar I have ever seen, when your a foodie- quality is expensive and makes a difference, it's the little things that impress me :), Bananas, salted caramel, raspberry coulis, and caramelized hazelnuts crumbs and whipped cream. When you put this combination together its a big win the flavors go together perfectly! The second waffle we tried was topped with Nutella, bananna, and mango coulis. Delicious as well and we couldn't get enough. The ingredients they use are mostly all imported from France and Belgium and are all natural making for a delicious tasting gourmet waffle. Manuel was outside by a table showcasing his carving skills with pork while Tiffany ran the kitchen in their food truck. They make delicious super stuffed chicken empanadas! Tiffany's claim to fame is the signature dish of a Roasted Pork and Arroz con Gandules. The pork is marinated overnight for 7-9 hours and roasted the next day to perfection. Empanada Guy: So happy to have met Carlos from the Empanada Guy! We tried the lobster empanada and when I handed it over to my darling daughter she ran away and did not want to share! So, when she circled back around I was only able to try a little nibble and it was really savory and yum! Well, there is more than one way to fillet a fish and that is because I found out there is a restaurant near by in West Freehold, NJ 568 West Park Ave. that we can stop by and I can get my own empanada! Carlos had some fans lined up for autographs and pictures and for good reasons he has many accolades including Winner of Episode 9 Lifetime's Supermarket Superstar and Creator of web series Food Truck Heroes on YouTube Channel: FTH Network.
