Celebrate Summer With Front Porch Flower Planters

Stopping by Home Depot is always a good time! What home project can I scratch off my list today? Well, on today's list are some a nice planters for the front steps that will last a long time that are not too horribly expensive and some glam flowers to put in them. I previously had an urn style where it was narrow at the bottom and a larger bowl type at the type at the top that liked to tip over on windy days and get chipped. After gluing the bottom back to the top heavy piece and still missing pottery pieces I decided to go with these 16 " stone square column planters for $60.00.

Start with some basic top soil to fill up the containers for $1.99 in Home Depot which they seem to run out of quickly then added some gorgeous 3 inch double pink bloom Knock Out rose bushes for $20.00. The roses will bloom until October and if I can move them to another area in the yard after the fall. This rose is disease resistant, heat, humidity, and drought tolerant and over five months of blooms that's why I love Roses!

My favorite flowers are perennials, they allow me to add to a small backyard flower garden each year that will someday be a HUGE cottage garden. Perennials provide years of beautiful color and are the best investment for your money. This year I am so excited to share that the lilies I purchased two years ago at Ocean Grove Garden Gift Shop have multiplied greatly and look beautiful! Peonies this year were fragrant and beautiful white puffs with some burgundy in the middle. While I lost two lavender plants which could have been picked out as a weed by a mistake, and one Lavender bush is a pretty large size with silvery blooms and purple flowers starting to bloom now in late June.

Some new additions that I have added to the back yard are some Hostas, Chocolate Mint, Peppermint, Strawberries, Carnations, Sea Grass, Salvia and Butterfly Bushes. By Next year these plants should be doubled in size as well. The first year when the plants go in the ground they are getting adjusted to their climate and the second year look out for the growth! Plants love food and water so be sure to pick up some Miracle Grow Plant food.
