Resin Chair Redo for $7.00 a chair

I love the look of wrought iron patio chairs with big comfy cushions or the easy care sling back chairs with black or brown iron. However, I couldn't resist this free set of resin chairs out for bulk garbage pick up day. The white chairs were kind of moldy and green with black stains from dirt and some chipping. For the price, let's see what we can do with these babies!

If you don't have a power washer I recommend getting one. It's so exciting washing away all of that filth. You have to be careful so you don't strip the finish off of what your are washing, so test the pressure. I started this project by first power washing the chairs. I didn't use any special cleaners -- just some plain old water. I wanted to keep this project low budget because the finish in some spots were a little iffy and chipped.

After a thorough soaking of myself and the chairs I let them dry over night. The chairs came out mostly stain free which was fine knowing that as long as the muck is off. The spray paint will take care of the rest! I made a pit stop at Home Depot and picked out my colors which go with my Martha Stewart patio set. I chose Seaside gloss spray paint, and Key Lime green gloss spray paint by Rustoleum which is a primer and paint in one. Lightly spray each chair holding can approximately 6 inches away and then apply a second coat after letting the first coat dry for 30 minutes so it's not tacky--depending on the humidity. The can says less drying time; but, I like to give it a little more time to avoid drips. Each chair needed two cans of spray paint for $7.00 a chair. This is a bargain, where can you buy nice chairs for $7 bucks??? There are different positions on these 'lil lovely chairs so I had to change each position and re spray again to get the white spots.

The chairs turned out gorgeous! The gloss paint looks great so the once dull chairs now have a nice shine and smooth finish! Don't be afraid of some color. It brightens up the yard. I am working on growing an English Garden and the chairs will be great for relaxing and reading...dreaming....hmmmm mini water falls or fish pond, fire pit???
